Slippers in New Guinea.
This 1942 photo taken in New Guinea shows an American private in clean and pressed khakis, all the more impressive considering the primitive conditions prevailing in that area of operations. What catches the eye, however, are his open-toed slippers. Almost certainly, this is a case of a man suffering from some kind of tropical foot rot and he is on medical orders to dress in this manner for a certain period of time.
