Разбивка новобранцев—распределение принятых новобранцев по войскам. Основанием для него служат ежегодно объявляемые главным штабом особые расписания с обозначением, в какую часть войск и какое именно число людей должно быть отправлено из каждого уезда. Территория империи делится на постоянные участки комплектования: основные, с коренным русским населением, по числу действующих армейских полков, и дополнительные—с населением иноплеменным. Каждый полк получает ежегодно 3/4 укомплектования из своего основного участка, 1/4—из участков дополнительных. Гвардия, стрелки, кавалерия, конная артиллерия и инженерные войска своих постоянных участков не имеют и комплектуются новобранцами, выбираемыми во всех участках на основании особых правил; например, в гвардию назначаются люди красивой наружности и не ниже 2 арш. 6 врш. ростом, в кавалерию—не ниже 2 арш. 4 1/2 арш. и не тяжелее 4 1/2 пд. и т. п. Выбор этот производится уездными воинскими начальниками. Р. новобранцев, назначенных в гвардию, по полкам производится главнокомандующим войсками гвардии. The Distribution of New Conscripts [Razbivka novobrantsev] is the distribution of newly received conscripts to troop units. It is based on annual distribution lists issued by the Main Headquarters. These lists designate the exact numbers to be sent from each district to which particular units. The empire’s territory is divided into permanent reinforcement regions [uchastki komplektovaniya], which were categorized as either primary, with an ethnic Russian population, or auxillary, with a non-Russian native population. Each regiment annually receives 3/4 of its replacements from its own primary region and 1/4 from auxillary regions. The guards, riflemen, cavalry, horse artillery, and engineer units do not have their own primary regions and on the basis of special rules take their conscripts from throughout the regions . For example, persons of a handsome appearance and not shorter than 2 arshins 6 vershoks [5 feet 6-1/2 inches] are assigned to the guards, persons no shorter than 2 arshins 4-1/2 vershoks [5 feet 4 inches] and weighing no more than 4-1/2 puds [162-1/2 pounds]—to the cavalry, and so on. This selection is conducted by the district military chiefs [uezdnye voinskie nachal'niki]. After conscripts are assigned to the guards, their distribution to individual guard regiments is done by the guards commander-in-chief.
