Norwegian Soldier, c. 1890.

The cardboard frame says Minnesota, but this photograph of "Otto Iverson" was almost certainly taken in Norway.  The light-blue uniform with a black helmet was standard full dress for the Norwegian army around 1890.  Piping on the tunic and pants was red for the infantry and black for the much smaller number of engineer troops. Buttons and helmet fittings were white metal.  Click here for a larger view.
