Hawaiian Neutrality.
(From Russkii Invalid No. 171, Sunday, 1 August 1854. Page 810.)
- The newspaper Panama Star and Herald, in its 3 July issue (21 June), announced the following: "The king of the Hawaiian (Sandwich) Islands, Kamehameha III, granted an audience to the commander of the Russian frigate Diana, Captain Lesovskii, who could not have been better received. The king declared his hope that in the coming war the neutral rights of the Kingdom of Hawaii would be respected. On 16/4 May the king, in his Honolulu palace, had proclaimed the strict neutrality of the Hawaiian Islands in the present war." (Journal de St.-Petersbourg.)
