(From Russkii Invalid, No. 171,  Sunday, 1 August 1854. Page 810.)

- According to news from China, the French frigate Jean d'Arc, under the flag of Admiral Laguerre, departed on 11 May/29 April from the island of Mavriki and arrived on 12 June/30 May at Singapore, where there was a division of the English navy consisting of one frigate, one brig, and two steamships. The French admiral assumed command of this division and was supposed to depart from Singapore with it on 16/4 July to meet the English squadron of Admiral Lord Sterling, already cruising in the north around Shanghai.
