A photograph from Kovel, in the northwest Ukraine, of two soldiers from the 196th Insar Infantry Regiment of the 49th Infantry Division. This uniform, without buttons, dates from about 1900. In 1914, just before World War 1, the 196th Regiment was stationed far to the east in Zlatoust in the Urals.
